Here are some pictures from our Barn Dance. We had a great night, good music, good outfits, plenty of alcohol flowing and tasty pork sandwiches. I think the band and DJ may have kept the Newmillerdam residents awake most of the night!
We raised around £1200 and received a generous donation of £200 which will help us with running costs and also fund our riders to attend both the Regional and National Dressage and Countryside Challenge Championships in June and July.
Thank you to everyone who bought tickets and our helpers for their hard work setting up. Also to Brian and Richard for loan of the trailer, Pete and Dan for loan of American cars and Piggin Fantastic Hogroast and Hank Muldoon and the Hangovers for giving us special charity rates.
We will hold the next Barn Dance in 2011, probobly around July time and hope to see you all there.

Our friend Tash was taking photographs throughout the day, if you would like to contact her email [email protected] or go to www.photographyfriends.webs.com

We are looking for a retirement home for our RDA pony Melly. Melly was our first pony here at Wakefield RDA and worked for 12 years with our riders and volunteers. She can no longer be ridden as she trips up a lot, otherwise she is in good health and will make someone a lovely field companion.
Update: Thank you to everyone who contacted us about re-homing Melly. She has gone to The Tacey Family in Lincolnshire where she now lives on a lovely yard and keeps the handsome Beau company.
If you can offer Melly a home please contact us on 01924 241341

Last year Intelligent Worming designed individual worming programmes for all our horses and ponies. We received worm count kits and wormers by post at specific times of the year. Now our horses only receive wormers when they need them, which is better for their health, better for our fields and saves us money.
We would recommend other horse owners try this expert service.
Tel. 01267 223322 or www.intelligentworming.co.uk for more information.
Thank you Intelligent worming for providing our worming programme for 2010 free of charge!

Notes on WRDA Freestyle Classes
For
competitors who have entered our Introductory B class, have a try at WRDA Beginners Freestyle class – Walk trot
Invent
a routine at home and then - Come and
give it a try – put a few easy school movements together (pick things that
you know you and your horse can do well) be inventive & have fun.
You
can use things like 20m circles, changes of rein, half 10m circles, 3 loop
serpentines and loops 5m in from the track. Remember that in dressage tests you
usually repeat the same movements on both reins and show a free walk on a long
rein.
Enter at A and proceed down
centre line
then, Finish with halt,
immobility and salute at X facing the judge, minimum time 3.5 minutes, maximum
time 4 minutes.
You
will be judged on things like riders equestrian skill & balance, harmony,
choreography, use of the arena and inventiveness, interpretation of music.
For
competitors who have entered our Prelim classes; have a try at our WRDA Freestyle class – Walk trot canter
The
same as above but put a bit of canter in there. This is a prelim level class,
so please use movements that you would find in a prelim test. No pirouettes or flying
changes thank you!
Enter at A and proceed down
centre line
then, Finish with halt,
immobility and salute at X facing the judge, minimum time 4 minutes, maximum
time 5 minutes
If
you’re using music remember to bring your CD or music tape on the competition
day!!
Good Luck
