Today we had a new arrival!
Meet 'Dougal' our new RDA horse
Dougal is a 16hh 4 year old skewbald gelding and came from Great Eves Farm at Stoke on Trent.
We are very grateful to the Charity of Joseph Harrison who donated £3000 to us to buy him.
Once he has settled in, we will buy him some tack and he will begin his training.
Dougal will start to work with RDA riders from January 2010.
Thank you Mars Petcare for awarding WRDA £916 to purchase tack and rugs for our new horse.
We think he resembles our old pony Bramble - although everyone who remembers Bramble will know he could never be replaced!
This is Blaze
Blaze has just been accepted by WRDA as a gift from Dave and Hannah Raspin.
Blaze is 12.3hh and is a pretty Dales X pony. She is working with our RDA riders and volunteers and already everyone adores her.
Thank you Dave & Hannah for offering us your beautiful pony, all the children here love her.

Notes on WRDA Freestyle Classes
For
competitors who have entered our Introductory A class, have a try at WRDA Beginners Freestyle class – Walk trot
Invent
a routine at home and then - Come and
give it a try – put a few easy school movements together (pick things that
you know you and your horse can do well) be inventive & have fun.
As a suggestion you
can use things like 20m circles, changes of rein, half 10m circles, 3 loop
serpentines and loops 5m in from the track. Remember that in dressage tests you
usually repeat the same movements on both reins and show a free walk on a long
rein.
You
can put your test to music or ride it without.
Your test must include:
Enter at A and proceed down
the centre line
You will be judged on things like riders equestrian skill & balance, harmony, choreography, use of the arena and inventiveness, interpretation of music.
For
competitors who have entered our Prelim classes; have a try at our WRDA Freestyle class – Walk trot canter
Your test must include
Enter at A and proceed down
centre line
then, Finish with halt,
immobility and salute at X facing the judge, minimum time 4 minutes, maximum
time 5 minutes

Thank you Shelbey Wheatley and family for raising £400 from plant sales for Wakefield RDA.
This is the third year Shelbey has donated money from the sale, and every year she grows more and more, and her friends, neighbours and local car booters all get beautiful plants for their gardens at a really reasonable price.
Shelbey handed the money over to Carolyn in the stable yard at the Summer Fair.
Shelbeys donation will help to feed the RDA ponies over the next year.
