Theo’s story
At Wakefield RDA, people of all ages and abilities come to ride with us and we love to celebrate their achievements, which can take all sorts of forms.
Theo started riding here about a year ago when he was 7 years old. He was experiencing anxiety and this was affecting his confidence in many areas. It took a while but Theo started to enjoy his riding sessions becoming more and more confident in his ability. He worked really hard to improve his riding skills, so much so, that he was able to ride his pony independently during lessons. At first he was reluctant to try trotting but with plenty of support and encouragement, one day he did it. It was scary for him but Theo is a determined character and he overcame his fear and was soon able to do rising trot. A huge achievement!
Recently, Theo stopped riding with us ... for a very good reason. His confidence had increased so much that he felt that he would like to join a football team and couldn’t continue riding as well. Theo’s mum Helen was so delighted that he was now able to choose a new activity for himself. This is how she described it.
“Just being around the horses, let alone controlling one, is something that I am so proud of Theo for achieving. I’m in no doubt that the confidence Theo gained has helped him in many ways, especially in joining a football team. Thanks once again for being a special part of Theo’s development.”
Of course we will miss Theo, a lovely intelligent boy with natural ability and a strong desire to do his best, but we are delighted by his personal progress and growing self confidence. We wish him every success with his new football team and look forward to hearing how he gets on. We know he’ll be a star!
